Mahalia Jackson Theater- A Different Kind Of New Orleans Date Night

    Since we arrived in New Orleans our date nights have been few and far between. In fact, I am pretty sure I can count them on one hand. When Evan and I have had the chance to make it out for a little adult time it seems that we automatically gravitate towards all the food, drinks, festivals, and friends that this city has to offer us. While there is nothing wrong with the aforementioned things I have been getting antsy about adding some more, "culture" into our date nights.


  I recently discovered that we have a theater of the preforming arts here in New Orleans, that offers a variety of major productions throughout the year. In fact there is an entire series of Broadway shows going on right now that are being sponsored by East Jefferson General Hospital.  I was really salivating when I found out that the 2006 Tony Award winning musical, JERSEY BOYS is playing. If you haven't heard of JERSEY BOYS it's the story of Frankie Vallie and the Four Seasons. It has been described as, "...the story of how four blue-collar kids became one of the greatest successes in pop music history." The music is supposed to be incredible!! 


   This is quite simply not a low budget or novice show. It is just the opposite actually! It is Directed by two-time Tony® Award-winner Des McAnuff, JERSEY BOYS won the 2006 Tony® Award for Best Musical, the 2006 Grammy Award® for Best Musical Show Album, the 2009 Olivier Award for Best New Musical, the 2010 Helpmann Award for Best Musical (Australia), and continues to break box office records on Broadway and across North America. JERSEY BOYS worldwide has been seen by approximately 14 million people (as of January, 2012). JERSEY BOYS is written by Academy Award®-winner Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, with music by Bob Gaudio, lyrics by Bob Crewe and choreography by Sergio Trujillo.

  3. I *love* live theater - my hubby took me to "Wicked" for my birthday a few years ago - Best date ever!!! Sounds great -wish I lived in New Orleans!

  8. very jealous! I wish i could go see the jersey boys, they were here in pbg, fl however because of a strike at the theater here they had to cancel their performances :( I love theater! :)

  10. I saw Jersey Boys in Vegas. Awesome show!! I must see Wicked though!!! It will be our first date night out probably after having Kiera.
