What we Are Listening To At Our House (and in our car)

I am a big advocate of playing music for your children. I believe in listening to music you love together. I can remember vividly my Mom playing her own favorites for me such as Bob Marley and ABBA (Dancing queen shes only seventeen....). When I hear those songs I fondly think of her and the easy going days of my childhood. Weston has come accustomed to the tunes of all of our favorites including Jack Johnson, Sublime, Dave Mathews, Coldplay, Live, and the Counting Crows. We especially love to play music during playtime and bath time. Some fun background music is truly up lifting for the soul of both Mama and baby. He now bounces up and down to the music and claps his little hands which just melts my heart.

Recently we have started getting into some child specific music. Weston has never been an easy going car rider. Much to our chagrin we have had many trips where he has screamed the whole way. This isn't easy on the nerves I assure you. We have found that it really calms Weston in the car if we play music that is more specific to him. We have tried out the locally famed Johnette Downing (if your from Nola you probably know who I'm talking about) and we also love Renee and Jeremy. This month we tried out and found ourselves really enjoying a CD by Sukey Molloy.

"I Am Sleepy" the album, is a mix of songs, lullabies, and stories that are soothing and bedtime appropriate. Sukey has this very melodic and soothing voice that is instantly relaxing. This album has also proven to do well to promote car seat calmness in our experience! I am no music expert though, so please so don't take my word for it. Check out this clip and see for yourself the soothing powers of Sukey Molloy.

If you think you and your little one would enjoy some of Sukey Molloy's melodies you can purchase them on her website. I Am Sleepy sells for $12.99. Make sure to check out her other albums as well!
