Weston's Weekend

Despite this bit of photography being rather lack luster we had a fabulous, fun, family weekend. We started with Mexican night with friends at our house and ended with a family day at the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas. The (air conditioned) aquarium was exactly what we needed to escape this insane summer heat.  I wasn't sure that Weston would like the aquarium but was thrilled to see him babbling away at all the beautiful fish and sea life.  Let me just say, that the aquarium has got to be the hardest place EVER to take quality photographs.  With out further adieu, Weston's Weekend...

mOmma, a Product Review

Update: Giveaway closed. Congrats to the winner Karen H.!
This week I had the pleasure of trying out mOmma, Lansinoh's new feeding line of products. While Lansinoh's primary mission as a company is to support the breastfeeding Mother, they recognize modern Mama's may have additional product needs. The mOmma line is proud of  the following features of their product line:

* Patented NaturalWave™ Peristaltic Nipple based on over 50 years of research
* Allows baby to mimic natural sucking rhythm, reducing nipple confusion
* Wide, rounded nipple base which encourages a wider latch-on which promotes oral, facial and jaw development
* Soft and flexible 100% silicone nipple that is lined internally with specially designed grooves that are made to optimally compress and control milk flow
* Available in slow, medium and fast flow to meet baby’s changing needs
* AVS™ Air Ventilation System reduces intake of gas, a potential cause of colic or spit up
* Round bottle shape is easy and comfortable for baby to hold
* Wide design is easy to pour into and clean
* Interchangeable with mOmma® Non-Spill and Straw cup lids
* Features protective cover for leak-free, hygienic coverage on-the-go
* 100% BPA Free

While all of the above features are positives, what I was most interested in was how my 8.5 month old baby would actually like the products. I first introduced him to the mOmma bottle. Since I am breastfeeding I gave him some water in the bottle. Much to my surprise he LOVED it.  He loved it so much that we have now been taking a bottle of water with us on hot days and he loves to hold it and drink from it. The shape of the mOmma bottle reminds me a lot of Russian nesting dolls. Very plump  and round in shape. The nipple is extremely soft and flexible. The large mouth of the bottle makes it very easy to prepare and to clean.

The second thing we tried from the mOmma line is the sippy cup. The sippy cup is very similar in shape and configuration to the bottle. It also has a valve to prevent leakage.  This valve is a sippy cup must!  I attempted to give my son the sippy cup but he couldn't quite catch on. He chewed on, rather than sucked on, the spout. Perhaps, the mOmma sippy cup will be something good for us to try when we start the weaning process.

The last item we trialed was the mOmma feeding spoon. The spoon has a rubbery red handle which you hold to feed the baby. The spoon rocks back and forth when you place it in front of the baby. This is both good and bad. It is a fun interactive toy for the baby, however, it also makes your feeding utensil more attractive. My baby happens to love to try to grab the spoon (any spoon) and this makes for some messy feedings indeed.

If your baby is a more passive eater ( and not trying to swat the spoon out of your hands) then this spoon is amazing. The shorter handle allows the spoon to rest more solidly in your container of food. The actual spoon end of the utensil is wider than most baby spoons. This allows you to shovel food more easily into little hungry mouths. This spoon is also one of the only baby spoons I have seen that come with a cover. A covered spoon is wonderful for traveling or lunch out.

Thanks for checking out my product review. Hope this helps in your search for high-quality feeding products! Thank you to Lansinoh for providing a mOmma feeding line giveaway as well as a link to a $1.00 off coupon for a mOmma bottle .

UPDATE: The giveaway has ended. Congrats to the winner,
Karen H.

Weston's Weekend

I have decided to add a bit of structure to this little blog of mine! I've decided that every weekend I will have a mini-photoshoot of some sort to document Weston and his growth. The, "Weston's Weekend" blog post's will also challenge me and my abilities to use a fancy schmancy DSLR camera. So here's to the weekend!

Wonderful Wubbanub, An awesome newborn pacifier

The NICU where I used to work gave out a Wubbanub in the shape of a little red dog to every baby. The parents thought they were adorable, the babies seemed to really like them, and as a nurse I always appreciated their practicality. A pacifier that would rest itself on top of the baby, instead of rolling away, out the reach of needy little lips. They were wonderful. So, when Weston was born my own little man had a Wubbanub within hours of birth. I think Wubbanubs are an awesome newborn pacifier!

As a Mother I have come to appreciate the finer things about the Wubbanub pacifier. I love how they are completely machine washable.  It is also important to note that these pacifiers are BPA free and made of medical grade silicone.

I love how the Wubbanub has grown with my baby. At first, I chose the Wubbanub for its ability to rest itself close to my baby and not tumble away in the crib. The bean bag type filling allowed the pacifier to cuddle itself close.  Now that my baby is older, he is able to play with the stuffed animal, and uses it to navigate the pacifier back into his mouth.

The pacifier attached to the Wubbanub is a Soothie Brand pacifier. The pacifier does not come apart from the animal, however, on the few occasions where I go without the Wubbanub, I take a separate Soothie pacifier with me. This is very convenient.
I am also a big fan of bringing a Wubbanub as a gift to visit a newly delivered baby.  My personal favorite gift for a new baby girl is the Cutesie Caterpillar. What a nice token gift to give a beautiful new babe.
As a family we have a virtual zoo of Wubbanubs at this time. We own a frog, a dog, a duck, a monkey, and a horse. Baby boy loves them all. Wubbanub was kind enough to offer to give one lucky reader a Monkey Wubbanub.  Here's hoping you and yours enjoy it as much as our family has.

UPDATE: The giveaway has ended! Congrats to the winner,
Diana S.!

Lansinoh Lifesavers, A Breastfeeding Product Review

Last week I posted about tips for successful breastfeeding. To follow-up on those tips, today I am going to review a few products from Lansinoh that were literally lifesavers. I'm very excited to announce Mrs. Mommy Product Blogger's first giveaway ever! Lansinoh has been kind enough to provide a gift package for one lucky mama, mama-to-be, or even a kind friend of  a prego or breastfeeding mama. Please see the rafflecopter application at the bottom of this page for details on how to enter.

1. Lansinoh Lanolin

Nipples take a beating when your a breastfeeding novice. Lanolin is one of many products marketed to help soothe and protect dry or cracked nipples. I personally used Lansinoh Lanolin for several weeks following delivery of my baby and it seemed to really aid in the healing process.  One of the reasons I chose Lanolin was that it is safe for you and for your baby - no need to remove it prior to breastfeeding.  I was also reassured by the fact that Lansinoh Lanolin is recommended by La Leche League, an international breast-feeding advocacy group.

Although slightly yellowish in the tube, Lansinoh Lanolin is colorless and odorless once applied. This was a big positive for me. The consistency is smooth and creamy. Paired with some breast pads to prevent smearing onto your bra's, this product is a great buy for the new breastfeeding Mother.

 2.  Soothies gel pads by Lansinoh

Soothies are my personal favorite breastfeeding products! I would store them in the fridge prior to use, and then place them over my nipples for amazing cooling relief. I often used these gel pads in my bra when I needed to leave the house. It prevented my scabby nipples from sticking to my bra, and protected me from additional chafing. These gel pads were a godsend. I urge every breastfeeding mama to go and pick up a set of these.

It is important to note that these gel pads can only be reused for up to 72 hours. For three days of use $9.99 may seem like a steep price, however, I whole-heartedly felt this was 10 bucks well spent.  In fact, I loved the Soothies so much that I sent my husband back to the store for 2 more sets (he loved that).

3. Lansinoh Disposable Nursing Pads

Leakage with nursing (particularly in the beginning) is an unfortunate reality in the nursing mama's life. To combat embarrassing wet spots and prevent unsightly clothing stains, Lansinoh disposable nursing pads rock! These nursing pads are soft to the skin and yet not lumpy or noticeable through the clothing. They also have a special polymer and stay-dry lining which wicks wetness away from the skin. The special lining prevented my skin from staying damp and my clothes from becoming soiled. My only wish for improvement of these nursing pads is a larger area of adhesive.  That being said, I found this product to be a lifesaver during my first weeks of breastfeeding and give it my highest recommendation.

Thanks for reading! Also, a big thank you to Lansinoh for providing today's giveaway prizes.
Please sign up through rafflecopter below to win!
Also, check back next week for another round of product reviews/giveaways from the mOmma Line of feeding products by Lansinoh!

UPDATE: The giveaway has ended. Congrats to the winner,
Kristina J.

Weekend Highlights

I spent this weekend playing tourist with my boys. The highlights of the weekend were Jackson Square, delicious po-boys, wandering the French Quarter, and devouring some amazing ice cream at the Creole Creamery. Let me just say my lavender honey ice cream was out of control. We also tested out some new baby feeding products courtesy of Lansinoh (reviews and giveaways to come). Just wanted to pop in and leave you a few pictures of our awesome weekend.
